The Sharper Image Roll-up Portable 37 Key Keyboard
This was brought in with a messed up volume knob. (Quick background: I have 20+ years experience as an IT repair tech) I was able to get it fixed and working properly, but the volume knob is a little wonky to rotate. However, it works as it should. This device used and included 4 AA batteries. They have been removed for shipping. I played around with this keyboard for a couple of days. The good: It's lighter and smaller than most other keyboards. It's made of a heavy rubber material that SHOULD be able to withstand younger kids. The built-in speaker is loud and clear. It's easily audible at 1/2 volume and quite loud at full volume. There is an optional Line-in for DC power (Cable not included). There is a standard 3.5mm headphone jack for parents' sanity. The keys themselves are silent, which means when headphones are used, there should be no clicking from the keypress sounds. The bad: Only 3 keypresses can register at one time. When a 4th key is pressed, the device plays a note about halfway between the last two keys pressed. This is an entry-level keyboard with medium SOLID STATE (not mechanical) sized-keys. There are 99 preset instruments, none of which are terribly realistic, plus several background tempos. PLEASE NOTE
